A trip to Martelange / Belgium is also just a 30-minute drive from our site. In the “Ardoise” slate museum, visitors can experience an exciting journey through time into the slate industry of the 20th century. Discover in a guided tour the industrial and residential architecture of the museum complex, which provides a unique and complete picture of the more than 200 years of Luxembourgish history of slate mining and its processing. Underground mining chambers, industrial workshops, administration buildings and residential buildings are part of the 8 hectare museum grounds, as are the remains of goods transport on rails.
Take advantage of the opportunity to take part in a demonstration of splitting and cutting slate slabs or to visit the Rosset pit at a depth of 15 meters. The site gives you a vivid memory of the everyday life of the Martelinger slate worker.
The tour takes about 2.5 hours.
A jacket and sturdy shoes are recommended for a tour of the pit (constant temperature of 9 °).
